Julio Avila

Julio Avila has been a dedicated tattoo artist for over 30 years, creating striking and meaningful designs that celebrate culture, tradition, and individuality. Born and raised on Milwaukee’s south side, Julio’s artistic journey began in the heart of the city's rich and diverse community. After a brief time in art school, he found his true passion in tattooing, immersing himself in an art form that blends craft and cultures.

Influenced by the bold lines of American traditional tattoos, the intricate storytelling of Japanese designs, and the vibrant heritage of traditional Mexican art, Julio’s work reflects a deep respect for the art form’s history while offering a personal touch to every client. His work has been featured in books and art shows, cementing his place as a respected figure in the tattoo community.

As the owner of Cornerstone Tattoo, Julio has cultivated more than just a tattoo shop—he’s created a space where clients feel safe, valued, and understood. His warm personality and captivating stories have earned him a loyal following, with clients returning not only for his exceptional artistry but also for the genuine connection they experience in his chair.

In 2024, Julio released his first book, Tales of a Tattoo Apprentice, an autobiographical account of his first six years in tattooing. The book offers readers a raw and engaging look into the challenges and triumphs of starting out in the tattoo business in the early 1990’s. His second book, slated for release in late 2025, promises to delve deeper into his journey and the tattoos that have shaped his career.

Julio lives in Milwaukee with his wife and two sons, balancing his family life with his creative endeavors. When he’s not tattooing or writing, he runs Kingyo Color Company and Golondrina Publishing Company.
